Adel Taarabt has announced his retirement from professional football at the age of 37, concluding a two-decade career that saw him represent nine clubs across Europe and the Middle East. The Moroccan attacking midfielder, known for his skillful and often unpredictable style of play, shared his reflections on social media, stating that football has provided him with "amazing memories."

Taarabt began his career in Europe with French side Lens before joining Tottenham Hotspur as a teenager. He is perhaps best remembered for his time at Queens Park Rangers (QPR), where he made the most appearances of his career. His contributions were pivotal to QPR's Championship title win in 2011 under Neil Warnock, earning him the Championship Player of the Season award that year after scoring 19 goals and providing 21 assists. He made a total of 164 appearances for QPR, scoring 34 goals.

After his successful spell at QPR, Taarabt had loan periods with Fulham in England and Italian club AC Milan. He later moved to Portuguese giants Benfica, where he experienced a unique career shift, unexpectedly playing as a defensive midfielder. His career concluded with stints at Al-Nasr and Sharjah in the United Arab Emirates top flight.

Despite being known for his skilful and unpredictable game, Taarabt surprisingly became a defensive midfielder during a spell with Portuguese giants Benfica

Internationally, Taarabt represented Morocco 30 times, scoring four goals. He expressed gratitude to all the clubs, coaches, teammates, staff, and supporters who were part of his journey. "There were good moments, difficult moments, mistakes, great nights… everything. But that was my journey, and I wouldn’t change it," he stated.
