Steelers quarterback Aaron Rodgers has stated his intention to retire from the NFL following the 2026 season. Rodgers shared his plans in an interview with SiriusXM Mad Dog Sports Radio, expressing a desire to step away from the public spotlight to focus on healing his body and starting a family with his wife, Brittani.
"I’m looking forward to a life of quiet after 22 years in the pros and three in college and getting my body healed up and working on a family," Rodgers told interviewer Adam Schein. He clarified that while his wife is not currently pregnant, he hopes they will be expecting a child by this time next year.
Rodgers, 42, said that spending time with his brother's children has amplified his anticipation of fatherhood. The quarterback is entering his second season with the Steelers, having helped the team reach the playoffs last year. The Steelers finished the 2025 season with a 10-7 record and won the AFC North.
Throughout his 21-year NFL career, Rodgers has amassed 66,274 passing yards and 527 touchdowns, leading active quarterbacks in both categories. He has thrown 123 interceptions. In the 2025 season, he completed 65.7 percent of his passes for 3,322 yards, 24 touchdowns, and seven interceptions across 16 starts.
Rodgers reunited with head coach Mike McCarthy, who previously coached him for 13 seasons with the Green Bay Packers, including their Super Bowl victory in 2011. McCarthy is beginning his first season as Steelers head coach following Mike Tomlin's departure after 19 years with the team.
