New York Yankees captain Aaron Judge confirmed Wednesday that he is still weeks away from receiving new imaging on his fractured right rib and will not offer a public update on his condition until then.
"I'll give you a good update when we get some imaging and we'll go from there," Judge said. "There's no need to talk about this now. I know it's an important topic and a big issue, but I want to give you guys the full story, so why give you guys something now when we can get you everything here soon?"
The initial diagnosis of a stress fracture in his first right rib stated that Judge would undergo further imaging in approximately four to six weeks to determine the level of healing. Thursday marks four weeks since the diagnosis.
"I got nothing for you until then," Judge said. "You know how it goes around here, guys can feel good, feel bad, but you got to wait on imaging."
Manager Aaron Boone indicated that while Judge has been feeling better over the past week, he has not progressed enough to warrant new imaging. "Probably in the next couple weeks sometime, they'll determine based on what he's doing and when it's time to go take another peek at it," Boone said. "I don't know when that date is."
Judge has historically been private about injury specifics, dating back to a 2018 wrist fracture where he felt the original timeline provided by the team was inaccurate. Even after receiving a green light from imaging, ramping up to game readiness typically takes several additional weeks.
The Yankees have struggled during Judge's absence, losing six consecutive games entering Wednesday and averaging four or fewer hits in their last five contests. Judge commented on the team's recent performance, noting "a little lack of focus" that he intends to address with his teammates.
