Simone Biles has undergone a new medical procedure, returning to the hospital just weeks after experiencing a life-threatening health scare. The 11-time Olympic medalist shared a photo on Instagram from the hospital, wearing a gown alongside her husband, NFL player Jonathan Owens.
"His birthday but he takes me to get my procedure," Biles captioned the image, which showed her in good spirits despite the circumstances. The procedure's details have not been disclosed.
This latest hospital visit follows a terrifying medical emergency in early June that left Biles feeling as though she was "almost dying." At the time, she shared on Instagram that it was one of the scariest experiences of her life, particularly because her husband was away for football practices. She vowed to provide more details about the event at a later time.
In the weeks following the emergency, Biles faced online criticism after posting vacation photos, with some users questioning the severity of her illness. She responded to the comments, explaining that the trip was part of her healing process and emphasizing the importance of empathy.
"A little over two weeks ago, I experienced a serious medical emergency that could have ended very differently, and this trip has been part of allowing myself to heal and appreciate being here," she wrote in response to a critical comment. "I hope you understand that life-changing experiences can shift your perspective and that you're able to extend a little more grace to others moving forward."
She also addressed a comment questioning her participation in vacation activities by noting the availability of non-alcoholic beverages.
