Model and entrepreneur Molly Sims has opened up about her experience with perimenopause, detailing a multifaceted routine that includes supplements, mental health support, and physical activity.
Sims described perimenopause symptoms as impacting not only physical well-being but also mental and emotional health. She recounted sleepless nights, joint pain, and cognitive issues like forgetting words. At one point, she described herself as "hanging on by a thread."
Her approach to managing these symptoms includes utilizing Rula, a virtual mental healthcare platform, which she found helpful for accessing therapists and psychiatrists. Sims has since partnered with the platform, emphasizing its accessibility for women in areas with limited in-person care options.
Beyond mental health support, Sims incorporates several wellness rituals into her daily life. She advocates for magnesium, using magnesium baths and a magnesium CBD balm, and adds Epsom salts to her baths for muscle soreness. A daily wellness drink, reportedly created by Dria Murphy and containing colostrum, electrolytes, and creatine, is another staple.
While Sims also takes melatonin and vitamin B-12 shots, and uses turmeric, massages, cold plunges, and sauna sessions, she highlights Pilates as a particularly beneficial practice. She has been practicing Pilates three times a week, noting its positive impact on her breathing, posture, and overall sense of grounding.
Sleep disruption is another common perimenopause complaint, with an estimated 40% to 60% of women experiencing insomnia during this phase. Sims has experimented with different mattresses to improve her sleep quality, expressing a preference for Eight Sleep, which monitors sleep and offers temperature regulation.
Sims emphasizes that these different aspects of her routine—mental health support, movement, supplements, and sleep-focused habits—work in conjunction to help her navigate perimenopause. "They do all go hand in hand," she stated. "When they don’t go hand in hand, I think is where you get in trouble."
