Singer Katie Waissel has been readmitted to the hospital with a suspected blood clot on her lung, just two days after being discharged. Waissel, 40, had been battling severe bacterial pneumonia and returned to Wellington Hospital in London for scans and tests.
In a social media post on Thursday, Waissel stated, "After a day and a half at home, I'm now BACK at the hospital and not doing so great. Whilst still battling this awful bacterial pneumonia, there's now a suspected blood clot on my lung, so I'm back in for more scans, tests and needles." She expressed that she felt she had run out of veins for medical professionals to access. Waissel thanked the hospital staff for their care and stated her priority is to "get better and get home to my little boy," Hudson, seven.
Last week, the singer-songwriter had informed her followers that she was "far closer to the edge than I realised" after being admitted to St John and St Elizabeth's Hospital with "severe" bacterial pneumonia. She described the experience as one of the most frightening and painful of her life, which has motivated her to live more fully. In a separate post, she shared, "I'm still a little bit in shock, if I'm honest, coming to terms with just how close I came to not being here anymore." This realization has prompted her to create a bucket list of experiences.
Waissel, who finished seventh on the 2010 series of The X Factor, previously experienced a hospitalization in 2021 due to a suspected heart attack. She welcomed her son Hudson in 2018 and in 2023 launched her foundation O.W.H.L., which advocates for safety in the creative industries.
