Actor Joe Manganiello has detailed a challenging seven-year period of his life marked by severe health issues and multiple near-death experiences in his forthcoming memoir, "Bloodlines."

In the book, Manganiello, 49, describes grappling with a cascade of autoimmune-related illnesses that affected his skin, thyroid, eyes, lungs, and digestive system. The ordeal included chronic pain, a life-saving organ amputation, and a prolonged fight for survival that left medical professionals without clear answers.

Seeking answers beyond conventional medicine, Manganiello embarked on a global quest that involved exploring his ancestry, inherited trauma, and ancient healing practices. His journey led him to consult shamans, engage in pagan rituals, delve into ancient myths, and research long-lost family records as he sought a path to recovery and a deeper understanding of his health struggles.

Through genealogical research, Manganiello discovered that his ancestors included survivors of the Armenian genocide, individuals shaped by violence and displacement. He believes these hidden patterns in his family history may be connected to the experiences of others living with chronic illness.

Manganiello described the period as "the most brutally difficult time of my life" but also his "greatest adventure." He expressed hope that his experiences detailed in the memoir will offer readers encouragement and show that answers and healing can be found even when facing significant challenges.

Last year, Manganiello and his fiancée, Caitlin O'Connor, relocated from Los Angeles to their shared hometown of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. The couple, who confirmed their relationship in late 2023 and announced their engagement in October 2025, cited the high crime rate in Los Angeles as a factor in their move. They have expressed enthusiasm for being back in their hometown.

Manganiello's divorce from Sofía Vergara was finalized in July 2023, with the couple citing irreconcilable differences.
