A Jersey-based charity has launched new initiatives to bolster support for breastfeeding mothers, including the acquisition of hospital-grade breast pumps and the establishment of a new clinic. These efforts are designed to improve access to breastfeeding assistance, reduce financial burdens for families, and enable mothers to continue breastfeeding for longer periods if they choose.
The initiative specifically aims to assist families experiencing difficulties such as feeding challenges, premature births, delayed milk supply, or other related issues. The program is projected to support up to 160 mothers.
The new Pathways clinic offers an additional location for infant feeding support in the eastern part of the island, enhancing accessibility for families in that region. This expansion is part of a broader effort to provide comprehensive care and resources.
The hospital-grade pumps and accompanying pump kits were purchased through funding provided by the Jersey Community Foundation. Additionally, the Coop Community Fund contributed to the purchase of a maternity recliner chair.
These initiatives coincide with World Breastfeeding Week, observed annually from August 1 to 7. The timing highlights the ongoing global and local focus on promoting and supporting breastfeeding practices.
