Eamonn Holmes, a presenter for GB News Breakfast, has stated he is prioritizing his recovery after suffering a stroke in April. The 66-year-old was unable to attend the TRIC Awards on Tuesday night due to his ongoing health issues and treatment.
Holmes expressed gratitude for viewer support, particularly after GB News was recognized as Best News Programme at the awards for the fourth consecutive year. "I'd dearly wished I could have been there to celebrate with the team, but for now my focus has to be on making a full recovery and getting back to my best," Holmes said in a statement. He also thanked those who sent get-well messages, describing them as meaningful.
A spokesperson for GB News previously confirmed Holmes' stroke, stating he was responding well to treatment and had requested privacy. Colleagues and the network expressed wishes for a speedy recovery and anticipation of his return. GB News CEO Angelos Frangopoulos affirmed the company's support for Holmes during his recovery.
Holmes has spoken about other health challenges he has faced. In 2016, he underwent a double hip replacement. In 2021, he experienced three slipped discs and a dislocated pelvis, followed by major spinal surgery the subsequent year. Recently, he addressed speculation about appearing to fall asleep on air, explaining he was adjusting his microphone pack due to the absence of floor managers and camera operators on set.
