WWE Superstar Matt Cardona shared his thoughts on the burgeoning popularity of his colleague Danhausen, describing him as a "self-made superstar" whose impact has reached mainstream levels. Cardona's comments came during an interview with Fox News Digital, where he also touched upon a recent storyline involving Danhausen's peculiar laboratory.
During an appearance on "Friday Night SmackDown," Cardona entered Danhausen's laboratory, intending to have him "uncurse" the wrestler. However, upon touching one of Danhausen's tools, Cardona experienced a brief, unsettling reversion to his former "Zack Ryder" persona. He reported experiencing unusual symptoms since the incident, including a twitching finger and a strong urge to move from his current residence in Florida back to Long Island, New York. He also noted a tendency to chant "Woo!"
Danhausen, known for his distinctive vaudeville-inspired character and the tagline "very nice, very evil," has quickly become a notable presence in WWE since his debut at Elimination Chamber in February. His merchandise has reportedly sold well, and he has been associated with "uncursing" various teams to aid them in championship pursuits, including the New York Knicks and the Carolina Hurricanes.
Cardona, who has a history of wrestling Danhausen on the independent circuit, expressed that he anticipated Danhausen's success in WWE but did not foresee the scale of his current popularity. "He’s mainstream. I’m absolutely thrilled for him," Cardona stated. He emphasized Danhausen's broad appeal, noting his ability to entertain audiences of all ages and his capacity as both a performer and a wrestler.
Cardona also addressed his own recent performance in WWE. Admitting that his win/loss record has not been strong since his return earlier in the year, he explained that seeking Danhausen's help to be "uncurse[d]" was a strategic move, referencing the success attributed to such interventions for other teams.
Cardona reiterated his long-term ambition to compete for the WWE Championship, a goal he believes is only achievable by being part of the WWE roster. He contrasted his current situation with his time on the independent circuit, which he considers a successful period in his career, but ultimately underscored his return to WWE as a necessary step toward achieving his championship aspirations.
