Paulo Gabriel da Silva Barros and Katyucia Lie Hoshino, who hold the Guinness World Record as the world's shortest married couple, have opened their specially adapted home to TLC cameras. The couple, who both have dwarfism, are featured on the new show "Most Extreme Humans," which highlights individuals with rare conditions. Standing at a combined height of 71.42 inches, Barros, 40, and Hoshino, 36, have made significant modifications to their home in Itapeva, São Paulo, Brazil, to accommodate their needs.
The renovations focus on making everyday tasks more accessible. These include lowering door handles and light switches, customizing countertops, and creating accessible storage solutions. The kitchen, in particular, underwent a major transformation. Traditional cupboards were replaced with easy-to-reach pull-out drawers, and open shelving was prioritized. A shallow custom sink and a lower stovetop were installed to facilitate cooking together.
Barros noted the custom sink as a significant enhancement, designed for easier dishwashing. The couple also utilizes lightweight plastic step stools to reach higher areas, a lower laundry sink, and custom office furniture. Hoshino described their home as a "safe haven," explaining that "In our house, especially in the kitchen and bathroom, it was the opposite. It was the people who had to adapt to us."
Their relationship, which began online, has garnered international attention for over a decade. After Hoshino initially ignored Barros's messages, they eventually fell in love and married in London in 2016, eight years after they first connected. Their wedding gained global recognition when Guinness officials certified them as the world's shortest married couple, taking the title from a previous Brazilian pair. The "Most Extreme Humans" series also features other individuals with extraordinary conditions, including a Filipino man with unusually large hands and a man with a backward-bending spine.
