Los Angeles diners will have a unique chance to savor the acclaimed tonkatsu from Tokyo's Tonkatsu Narikura, a restaurant renowned for its elusive reservations. The culinary event will take place over two nights, July 19 and July 20, at Brothers Sushi in Culver City and Santa Monica, respectively.

Tonkatsu Narikura has gained global recognition for its tonkatsu, a Japanese dish of deep-fried breaded pork cutlets. The restaurant's version, often described as 'blonde' tonkatsu, is prepared using a slow-cooking method that results in a delicate, lightly golden crust, a departure from the darker, quick-fried style more commonly found in the United States. Chef Seizo Mitani, the master behind Narikura, is flying in from Japan to collaborate with Brothers Sushi chef-owner Mark Okuda for this exclusive pop-up.

Chef Mitani will reportedly bring his signature breadcrumbs from Japan and utilize premium pork from Peads & Barnetts for the dishes. The special tasting menu will consist of six courses, accompanied by rice, soup, and dessert, with tickets priced at $150. Reservations for the event can be made through Tock.

Securing a table at Tonkatsu Narikura in Tokyo is notoriously difficult, with many food enthusiasts considering a confirmed reservation a significant achievement. This Los Angeles pop-up offers a more accessible way for diners to experience the celebrated cuisine without the need for international travel and the challenges of booking months in advance.
