A photography project is highlighting the beauty and resilience of women undergoing cancer treatment, particularly in the face of hair loss due to chemotherapy. The project aims to reframe the experience of hair loss as a symbol of strength and survival.

Rhiannon, a mother of two, was diagnosed with breast cancer in November 2025 after discovering a lump. The diagnosis led to a mastectomy, chemotherapy, and radiotherapy. During chemotherapy, as her hair began to fall out, Rhiannon decided to shave her head. To manage the emotional impact on her children, aged 14 and nine, she involved her youngest daughter in the process, turning what could have been a distressing event into a more positive and shared experience.

"I wanted to make something hard joyful for my children and for myself because I didn't want them to see me upset, and my daughter loved it," Rhiannon stated.

The project seeks to capture and celebrate the courage of women like Rhiannon as they navigate the physical and emotional challenges of cancer. By focusing on their evolving self-image and inner strength, the initiative provides a platform for survivors to share their stories and foster a sense of community.

Other women featured in similar projects have also spoken about how hair loss, while challenging, has become a marker of their fight and survival. The visibility provided by such initiatives aims to reduce stigma and offer solidarity to others facing similar circumstances. These photographic celebrations underscore the profound personal journeys of cancer survivors, emphasizing empowerment and the multifaceted nature of beauty beyond conventional standards. They serve as a testament to the human spirit's capacity for resilience and adaptation in the face of adversity. Rhiannon is wearing pajamas and sitting in a chair in hospital holding two cuddly toys.
