The future of Apple TV+'s neo-noir detective sci-fi drama "Sugar" remains undecided as the series awaits a potential Season 3 renewal. The show, starring Colin Farrell as private detective John Sugar, concluded its eight-episode second season on August 7, leaving viewers with lingering questions and a significant extraterrestrial twist.

Apple TV+ has not yet announced whether the series will be picked up for a third season. Typically, streamers wait a period after a season finale to make renewal decisions. "Sugar" Season 1 wrapped in May 2024, and the renewal for Season 2 was not confirmed until October 2024, suggesting a similar timeline might apply.

Showrunner Sam Catlin and star Colin Farrell have indicated that there is more story to explore. Farrell commented on the complex relationship between John Sugar and his powerful sister, Djen, played by Mireille Enos. "There is something nefarious at play, and it terrifies him because he knows how powerful she is, and he knows how bright and brilliant she is," Farrell told Decider. "But there is something changed."

Catlin added that Djen possesses traits like ambition and greed that will create future conflict for Sugar. The show's season finale saw Sugar accepting his current life on Earth, finding contentment with his dog, Wiley, and reconnecting with an old friend. However, a glowing box, a connection to his people, signals that his extraterrestrial ties are far from severed.

If renewed, "Sugar" Season 3 could potentially premiere in 2027, following the pattern of previous seasons. Season 1 premiered in 2024, and Season 2 was released in 2026. The series is available for streaming on Apple TV+, which offers a seven-day free trial and a monthly subscription for $12.99. Subscribers to Amazon Prime can also add Apple TV+ through Prime Video for a reduced monthly cost, and a bundle with Apple TV+ and Peacock is also available.
