Will Smith and Jada Pinkett Smith were photographed together in public Saturday for the first time in roughly 10 months, stepping out of Nobu in Malibu and departing the restaurant in a white Lamborghini.
The pair — who married in 1997 and are parents to Jaden, 27, and Willow, 24 — appeared relaxed during the outing. Smith, 56, wore a short-sleeved white shirt, khaki shorts and a white cap, while Pinkett Smith, 53, wore a nude-colored strapless ensemble with a hood and sunglasses. The two were seen leaving the restaurant, heading to the valet and getting into the vehicle before driving off.
The appearance comes amid what the couple and their representatives have described as an unconventional marital arrangement. In October 2023, Pinkett Smith told Today’s Hoda Kotb that she and Smith have been separated since 2016 but have not legally divorced, saying, "By the time we got to 2016, we were just exhausted with trying. I think we were both still stuck in our fantasy of what we thought the other person should be." She added that she had "made a promise that there will never be a reason for us to get a divorce. We will work through whatever. And I just haven't been able to break that promise."
A source speaking to People in January described the couple’s status as living "their own lives but haven't completely severed ties," and another source told the outlet the pair "are still together" despite having maintained separate homes for years.
The Malibu outing was the first widely circulated set of images of the two together since a rare date-night appearance in November 2024. Their last red-carpet event together was the May 2024 premiere of Smith's film Bad Boys: Ride or Die.
The couple’s private life has been subject to intense public scrutiny in recent years. In 2020, Pinkett Smith addressed an "entanglement" with singer August Alsina on her web series Red Table Talk and said she and Smith were separated at the time. The revelations followed Alsina’s on-air claim that he had been romantically involved with Pinkett Smith and that Smith had given his blessing, a claim the couple initially denied.
Smith’s career has also been closely watched since the 2022 Academy Awards, when he slapped comedian Chris Rock onstage after a joke about Pinkett Smith. Smith later issued multiple public apologies and has since sought to rebuild his professional profile. In recent days, the couple’s Westbrook production company signed a first-look deal with Paramount to develop theatrical films, with two projects already in development: a thriller adapted from Chuck Hogan's novel Devils in Exile, retitled Sugar Bandits, and Rabbit Hole, written by Jon Spaihts. Paramount said the deal would position Westbrook on its Hollywood lot and concentrate on large-scale, global films with franchise potential.
Industry observers have noted that the arrangement follows a period during which some studios distanced themselves from the actor. Despite that, Westbrook has continued to produce high-profile titles in which Smith has been involved, including Emancipation (2022) and Bad Boys: Ride or Die (2024), and King Richard (2021), for which Smith won an Academy Award for best actor.
Smith has been intermittently active publicly in 2025. He launched a U.K. tour earlier this year, and promotional material related to those appearances attracted online attention when viewers flagged possible visual anomalies in a posted clip; some social media users suggested the footage contained AI-manipulated elements, citing blurred faces and distorted features. Representatives for Smith did not immediately comment on the viral criticism.
The couple’s public moments tend to attract attention given their long marriage, the high-profile disclosures and the couple’s continued professional collaboration. While the Nobu appearance provided a rare joint sighting, representatives for Smith and Pinkett Smith did not provide an immediate comment on the outing or on the specifics of their personal arrangement.
Their relationship has evolved publicly across decades: the two met on the set of The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air in the mid-1990s and married in 1997. They have navigated family life and careers under sustained media attention, and their recent business move with Paramount signals continued involvement together in entertainment industry ventures despite their private living arrangements.
