A new album featuring Whitney Houston's chart-topping hits, titled “WH1TNEY,” was released Friday, marking a continuation of celebrations for the iconic singer's legacy. The release coincides with what would have been Houston's 63rd birthday on Sunday.
Pat Houston, executor of Whitney Houston's estate and the singer's sister-in-law, described the album as a collection that "represented the very best of her career," bringing together songs that "defined generations" and became the "soundtrack to millions of lives."
Further honoring the singer, a Whitney Houston Barbie doll, the first of its kind, is set to be released on Sunday. Pat Houston noted that the idea for the doll was something she and Whitney discussed over 20 years ago, calling its eventual realization "both emotional and very much inspiring."
"It served as a beautiful reminder that some dreams take time," Pat Houston said. "And when they’re rooted in love and purpose, you can transcend generations and that’s what this Barbie is doing."
The fifth annual Whitney Houston Legacy of Love gala is scheduled to take place Saturday night.
Pat Houston also spoke about the enduring relationship between Whitney Houston and Clive Davis, her longtime mentor and record executive. "You can’t mention Whitney Houston and not mention Clive Davis and you can't mention Clive without mentioning Whitney Houston," she stated, emphasizing that Davis played a crucial role in Houston's life and career, a bond that extended beyond music.
Regarding future projects, Pat Houston indicated that the estate is carefully considering new ventures to honor Houston's catalog. "There are some things that we’re working on," she said. "But yes, different things come to the table all the time, but we’re cautious and careful."
She expressed a desire to release unseen live performances, stating, "I would love to come up with or produce some of the shows and present some of those shows that have never been seen before, because it would blow you away to see that gifted talent."
