A collection of original watercolours by Welsh ceramicist William Weston Young is set to be auctioned, with estimates suggesting the works could fetch up to £25,000.
Young, who passed away in 1847, was a pivotal artist in Welsh ceramics, known for his contributions to the Cambrian Pottery and Nantgarw China Works. He was also recognized as an artist, inventor, and entrepreneur, credited with the accidental invention of the modern blast-furnace brick. Young resided in the Neath Valley, where he documented Welsh nature, creating scientifically accurate depictions of birds and botanical specimens on clay.
Rogers Jones Auctioneers will be offering Young's original working drawings for his renowned porcelain. These pieces are preserved within a single bound volume containing 41 sketches.
