Horror film Weapons is available to buy and rent on digital platforms beginning Tuesday, Sept. 9, but Warner Bros. has not announced when the movie will arrive on the studio’s subscription streamer, HBO Max (Max).

Written and directed by Zach Cregger, Weapons follows a bizarre missing-children case in which 17 children leave their homes in the middle of the night to gather at an unknown location, prompting parents to blame the children’s teacher, Justine, played by Julia Garner. The cast also includes Josh Brolin, Cary Christopher, Alden Ehrenreich, Austin Abrams, Benedict Wong and Amy Madigan. The movie has been a box-office success, grossing more than $240.9 million worldwide.

Warner Bros. is releasing Weapons on premium video-on-demand as studios continue to use digital sales and rentals to extend theatrical revenue. The digital release goes live at 12 a.m. Eastern Time on Sept. 9 (9 p.m. Pacific on Sept. 8) and will be available through retailers including Amazon Prime Video, Apple TV and Fandango At Home. Pricing varies by platform; Amazon lists the movie at $24.99 to buy and $19.99 to rent. Rented purchases generally allow 48 hours of viewing time after the viewer presses play.

A physical release on 4K Ultra HD, Blu-ray and DVD is scheduled for Oct. 14, with special-feature content that includes featurettes titled "Director Zach Cregger: Making Horror Personal," "Weaponized: The Cast of Weapons" and "Weapons: Texture of Terror."

Warner Bros. has not set a subscription-streaming date for Weapons on HBO Max, and the company has not commented publicly on its planned window. Because Weapons is a Warner Bros. title, industry observers expect it will eventually appear on Max and be available at no additional cost to subscribers. Historical release patterns for Warner Bros. and New Line horror titles provide a rough precedent: Final Destination: Bloodlines arrived on premium video-on-demand about a month after its theatrical opening and began streaming on Max roughly three months after its theatrical debut. If Weapons follows a comparable pattern, it could appear on Max in late October 2025, ahead of Halloween. Warner Bros. has varied its home-release strategy by title, however, and the studio has in some cases accelerated or delayed streaming windows for marketing and revenue reasons.

For viewers without a subscription, buying or renting the film on digital platforms provides immediate at-home access. Those who prefer subscription streaming can monitor Max for an official announcement. Max’s subscription tiers currently include a lower-priced ad-supported option and an ad-free option; pricing and bundle options vary by region and platform.

Weapons is Cregger’s follow-up to Barbarian, the 2022 surprise hit that built momentum through word of mouth. The new film has generated strong critical and audience buzz and is expected to continue generating ancillary revenue through digital sales and physical releases while awaiting a streaming window. Warner Bros.’ decision on when to place the title on Max will determine when subscribers can view the film as part of their existing service rather than via a separate purchase or rental.

Until an official streaming release date is announced, the options to watch Weapons at home are to purchase or rent on the listed digital platforms or to buy the upcoming physical release when it ships in October.
