A video of a woman confronting a father and his son over a loose home run ball at a Philadelphia Phillies game has gone viral, and social media users have responded with a torrent of memes — including AI-generated images comparing the woman to the Lord of the Rings character Gollum — even as online sleuths have not identified her.

The incident occurred Friday night at Citizens Bank Park during the Phillies' game against the Miami Marlins, when a Harrison Bader home run landed near a group of fans. Video circulating online shows Drew Feltwell reaching the ball and immediately giving it to his nine-year-old son, Lincoln, before a woman nearby walked over and demanded the ball. The confrontation escalated into shouting and the ball ultimately changed hands.

The episode and its aftermath drew rapid attention across platforms, where meme makers used the footage and still images to lampoon the woman. Among the most widely shared images were AI-altered depictions that transformed her features into those of Gollum, the fictional creature from J.R.R. Tolkien's The Lord of the Rings. Other memes suggested the woman's outfit could serve as a Halloween costume and superimposed her into a later, more conciliatory scene in which Bader met the young fan.

After learning about the confrontation, Bader met Lincoln and presented him with a signed bat, an exchange that the Phillies shared publicly. One meme circulated that placed the woman into the meeting as if she were again demanding the gift be handed over.

Drew and Lincoln spoke with NBC 10 Philadelphia about the encounter. "I wasn’t very happy that we had to give it to her, but we can’t win," Lincoln said. "She was going to get it anyways. I'm happy I got to get something else. It was very, very fun getting to meet Bader." Drew said he did not want the woman's life ruined despite disapproving of her behavior. "She brought that on. She's going to pay for that and it is not by hand. I don't wish any harm on her. Maybe she was in the moment. I'm not going to defend her," he told the station.

Attempts by amateur internet investigators to identify the woman have so far been unsuccessful. The footage has circulated widely without publicly revealing her name or any confirmed identifying details.

The episode joined a string of high-profile stadium altercations captured on video and amplified on social media, where quick editing and AI tools can accelerate public mockery and speculation. The Phillies' response — Bader's meeting with Lincoln and the signed bat — was noted by commenters as a measured attempt to make amends with the child affected by the confrontation.

Legal experts and observers caution that viral notoriety can have lasting consequences for those involved, particularly when identity is unconfirmed and content is heavily manipulated. In recent years, sports events have become frequent sites of viral incidents, and teams, players and fans have at times sought to address disputes in public and private through apologies, restitutions or, in some cases, legal action.

For now, the focus among fans and commentators remains on the footage and the tidal wave of memes that followed. The family said they appreciated meeting Bader, and the exchange between player and young fan has been highlighted by many as a positive outcome amid the controversy.
