Actor Vincent Pastore, widely recognized for his portrayal of Salvatore "Big Pussy" Bonpensiero in HBO's "The Sopranos," has died at the age of 80. His family will hold funeral services in New Rochelle, New York, later this week.

Pastore's body was discovered in his Bronx apartment on Saturday after a neighbor reported not hearing from him for three days. His longtime friend, Stephen Villano, confirmed the details to TMZ.

Career and Later Years

Born in 1946 to an Italian-American family in the Bronx, Pastore grew up in New Rochelle. His early career included opening bars and clubs before he pursued acting after earning a drama degree from Pace University. He gained early acting experience in community theater and small roles, including a part in "Goodfellas" and a more significant role as Angelo Ruggiero in the 1996 HBO film "Gotti." Pastore described "Gotti" as a career turning point that led to his casting in "The Sopranos."

Beyond "The Sopranos," Pastore frequently appeared on "Law & Order" and participated in reality television shows such as "Celebrity Apprentice" and "Dancing with the Stars." In his later years, he dedicated himself to running a theater company, staging multiple plays annually and reconnecting with former "Sopranos" cast members.

Personal Reflections

Villano shared that Pastore found fulfillment in teaching and mentoring young actors. "He used to tell them, 'It's a one-in-a-million chance of making it, but look at me. It's part luck, who you are, how you train and hard work... but you can do it just as I did,'" Villano recounted. He also emphasized that Pastore remained grounded despite his success, living a simple life in his hometown.

"The Sopranos" co-star Michael Imperioli paid tribute to Pastore on Instagram, calling him a "kind hearted brother" and a "beloved friend and collaborator." Imperioli recalled their extensive shared work and travels, stating, "Lots of good times. Lots of laughs. Vinny was a kind hearted brother who cared deeply about his family and friends. I will miss him always."

Pastore is survived by his daughter, Renee, and his ex-wife, Nancy Berke.
