Cwmbran Celtic AFC, a grassroots football club in Wales, has announced a new kit sponsorship deal with four prominent UK bands: Super Furry Animals, Loose Articles, Panic Shack, and Mogwai. The collaboration aims to raise funds for the club's numerous teams and also support a music charity.
The prominent Welsh band Super Furry Animals has lent its name to the home and away kits. Frontman Gruff Rhys explained the band's connection to the town of Cwmbran, noting that their iconic 50-foot inflatable bears, known for their unusual promotional tactics, have been repaired there for decades. "The bears were very keen to repay the favour and this beautiful football kit was born," Rhys said.
Mancunian punk band Loose Articles and Welsh group Panic Shack also joined the initiative. Matt Jarrett, a member of Loose Articles, mentioned that the drummer's mother lives in Cwmbran, which facilitated their involvement. Glasgow-based post-rock band Mogwai, who are supporters of Celtic Football Club, are featured on the men's green-and-white away shirt.
The majority of the revenue generated from the sale of the team's shirts will directly fund the club's operations. Cwmbran Celtic AFC boasts six senior sides, a veterans team, a walking football program, and a comprehensive junior setup.
In addition to supporting the football club, 10% of the profits from the shirt sales will be donated to the Music Venue Trust, a charity established in 2014 dedicated to protecting, securing, and improving grassroots music venues across the United Kingdom. The Super Furry Animals first gained recognition in 1996 following the release of their album Fuzzy Logic.
