The TV Festival is set to move from Edinburgh to Manchester next year, ending a 50-year run in the Scottish capital. Organizers cited increasing challenges related to accessibility, affordability, and sustainability within the television industry as the primary reasons for the relocation.

The TV Foundation, which has managed the festival since 1976, stated that Manchester's vision for the event, which combines creative ambition with future-facing energy, was a key factor in the decision. The move is expected to significantly reduce costs for delegates. Edinburgh will host the festival for the final time from August 25-28.

The festival is known for its independent debates within the television industry, featuring over 60 keynote speakers, discussions, and masterclasses. It attracts prominent figures from the sector; last year's event included appearances by presenter Graham Norton, actor Michael Sheen, and American comedian, writer, and producer Tina Fey.

In 2027, the festival is scheduled to take place in St. John's, a new creative district in Manchester. The specific dates for the 2027 event are yet to be confirmed.

The decision followed an extensive consultation process and a competitive bidding process that commenced last year, ultimately being made by the festival's board of directors.
