Travis Kelce said he shed a few tears when he proposed to Taylor Swift and called the moment “an exciting ride” during a pregame interview Sunday on NFL on Fox.

The Kansas City Chiefs tight end, 35, told reporter Erin Andrews that he is an “emotional guy” and that “the palms were definitely sweating” when he got down on one knee. “I can’t wait to spend the rest of my life with her,” Kelce said, but added he wanted Swift, also 35, to tell her version of the story someday.

Kelce proposed last month immediately after Swift guested on the “New Heights” podcast hosted by Kelce and his brother, Philadelphia Eagles center Jason Kelce. The couple confirmed the engagement in August with joint Instagram posts that included photos from the moment and a shared caption reading, “Your English teacher and your gym teacher are getting married 🧨.” Swift has not publicly commented on the engagement.

In the interview and on his podcast earlier this month, Kelce described being “giddy” and “excited” in the days after the proposal and said it had been “really fun” telling people that he will be spending his life with Swift. He urged others planning to propose to “know your gal” and not feel compelled to imitate how others do it, saying examples from other proposals can inspire ideas but the most important part is knowing the partner.

The relationship, which became public in the summer of 2023, has drawn sustained media attention, in part because of the couple’s high profiles: Kelce is a Super Bowl-winning tight end and Swift is a multi-Grammy-winning singer-songwriter. The engagement announcement followed several public outings and media appearances by the two and brief on-air discussion of their relationship on the athletes’ podcast.

Kelce’s remarks Sunday added personal detail to an engagement that has been widely reported but largely unconfirmed in the performers’ own words until recent interviews. He declined to narrate the entire moment, saying he would prefer Swift to share her account when she chooses. The couple’s announcement and subsequent coverage have continued to generate public and industry interest as both prepare for their next professional and personal steps.
