Trader Joe's new $3 mini canvas tote bags, released nationwide on Wednesday, are selling out rapidly and drawing long lines at many store locations. The reusable bags, measuring 13 inches long, 11 inches tall, and 6 inches wide, come in four pastel-striped colors and are designed for smaller shopping trips. However, their low price and collectible status have fueled intense demand, with some outlets reporting sell-outs by mid-morning.
Customers in New York and New Jersey were observed forming lines that extended down the block, with some shoppers purchasing up to 24 bags. One shopper, Eunice Lee, cited the "cheap" price and "cute, pretty" design as reasons for buying multiple totes to gift to family in South Korea. The popularity of Trader Joe's totes extends internationally, where they are sometimes resold for significantly higher prices.
The retailer has acknowledged the high demand and limited supply of the bags. This popularity has also led to issues with counterfeit versions being sold online. Trader Joe's has stated it has initiated legal action to protect consumers from misleading or fake products, emphasizing its commitment to safeguarding customers from being deceived by unofficial merchandise.
