Author Tomi Adeyemi has publicly distanced herself from the upcoming film adaptation of her novel, "Children of Blood and Bone." The announcement comes shortly after the release of the movie's first trailer, which showcases a star-studded cast and glimpses of the fantasy world.

The trailer opens with award-winning actress Cynthia Erivo as Admiral Kaea and Damson Idris as Prince Inan. South African actress Thuso Mbedu stars as Zélie, the central character, with veteran actress Viola Davis portraying Lekan, who trains Zélie to "bring magic back" to their land.

The film's narrative appears to follow the novel's plot, where magic once flowed freely among the people of Orisha. The trailer depicts scenes of Zélie, played by Mbedu, discovering her innate magical abilities, including creating fire. However, it also shows the suppression of this magic by those who feared it, leading to conflict.

Alongside Erivo and Idris, the film features a notable cast including Idris Elba, F1 the Movie star, and singer Ayra Starr. Amandla Stenberg, who plays Princess Amari, and Brit Rising Star winner Bukky Bakray are also part of the ensemble.

Adeyemi's public statement suggests significant tension between her and the film's production. Last month, she shared posts on social media indicating her decision not to promote the adaptation. In one post, she stated, "There is a reason I will not post anything about the adaptation of my work. That's all."

Further messages indicated a breakdown in communication with cast members, including a screenshot of a text allegedly sent to Amandla Stenberg. In the text, Adeyemi reportedly wrote, "Do not ever use my name in an interview or video again. Do not text me. Do not call me."

The production team and Amandla Stenberg have been approached for comment regarding these statements. The release of the trailer, coupled with the author's explicit detachment, marks a complex moment for the highly anticipated adaptation.
