Tom Cruise and Anne Hathaway have announced a sequel to the 1990 film "Days of Thunder," with the movie slated for release in summer 2028. The actors revealed the news in an Instagram Reel posted on Saturday, appearing alongside a race car emblazoned with "Days of Thunder 2 Summer 2028."

In the video, Hathaway, who is visibly pregnant, quipped to Cruise, "Now what? Let’s make the movie!" She then suggested, "I should have my baby and then make this movie." Cruise responded, "That’s a good idea." He then confirmed the release window, stating, "We’re coming out summer of 2028! Don’t be late!"

Cruise, 64, will reprise his role as NASCAR driver Cole Trickle. Hathaway, 43, is set to play an engineer and team owner. Jonathan Levine is attached to direct the project, with Cruise, Jerry Bruckheimer, and Tommy Harper serving as producers.

The original "Days of Thunder," released in 1990, starred Cruise alongside his then-wife Nicole Kidman. Cruise met Kidman on the set of the film, and they married later that year. The movie grossed $157.9 million worldwide against a production budget of approximately $60 million. Cruise told Rolling Stone in 1990 that he wanted to create a film that immersed audiences in the high-speed world of NASCAR, capturing the sensations of being at the track.
