TikTok personality Jake Kind, known online as Goobi Gubbi, announced Friday that his grandmother, Judith “Judy” Bernstein — affectionately called “Mimmy” — died at the age of 82 after a long battle with cancer.
Kind, a 27-year-old Philadelphia-based creator with more than 650,000 followers, posted a pre-recorded video Bernstein had filmed before her death in which she delivered a blunt, often humorous final message to family and fans. "If you are watching this, it means I'm dead," Bernstein said in the clip, then reflected on her life and travels with her late husband, Arnie.
In the recording, Bernstein recounted traveling the world and spending time with "phenomenal people" and repeatedly urged her family to remember that she "had a fabulous life." Kind gently prodded her to keep the farewell light, at one point whispering "orgies" and playfully interrupting when she veered into a tangent about South America, saying, "This is a speech about you, not about the country of Brazil." Bernstein closed the message by reiterating the simple advice: "I had a fabulous life. That's what you need to remember."
Kind had informed followers earlier in the week that his grandmother was in the end stages of her illness. In his social media posts he documented family moments and made clear the importance of humor and candid conversation to their relationship.
Bernstein's pre-recorded farewell was shared widely by Kind's audience, drawing condolences and tributes in comment threads and on other social platforms. The video underscored themes that recur in Kind's content: close family ties, candidness about health struggles, and a mixture of affection and irreverence in private moments shared publicly.
Kind rose to prominence on TikTok for his short-form videos that blend family interactions and comedy. His choice to share Bernstein's recorded words followed a pattern among influencers who document end-of-life experiences to process grief publicly and to allow remote followers to participate in mourning and remembrance.
No details about funeral arrangements were disclosed in Kind's posts. His announcement prompted fans and fellow creators to offer their sympathies and to reflect on the role of family in his online persona. Bernstein's message — frank, humorous and focused on gratitude for a life well lived — was the focal point of tributes in the hours after Kind posted the video.
Kind did not immediately respond to requests for additional comment from news outlets. He has previously discussed his family members and their influence on his work, and on Friday he used his platform to share Mimmy's final words with his audience.
