A public wake was held Monday at the Irish Museum of Modern Art (IMMA) in Kilmainham, Dublin, for Irish singer-songwriter Glen Hansard, who died last week in a single-vehicle motorbike crash.
A queue of hundreds of people stretched around the venue as they waited to pay their respects, with thousands expected throughout the day. The line moved steadily, with mourners continuing to arrive throughout the morning.
Ronan Buckley, who attended with his wife Rebecca and their two children, Leah and Lily, described Hansard's music as fantastic and his outlook on life as brilliant. "We felt we had to be here," Buckley said.
Rebecca added, "We have the kids here today and they're also fans through us. It's just a massive loss to Ireland."
Hansard, an Oscar-winning musician, was known for his work as a solo artist and as the frontman for the Irish band The Frames. His musical career spanned decades, earning him international acclaim.
