This Morning won the Daytime Award at the National Television Awards on Wednesday, with presenter Alison Hammond saying the victory made her feel “the natural order has been restored.”
Hammond, 50, said the team had been “humbled” after missing out on the award for the previous two years and thanked viewers who cast votes for the show. Cat Deeley, one of the programme’s main presenters, and Ben Shephard joined Hammond on stage as the trio accepted the prize at the O2 Arena in London.
“Can we just say a massive thank you to each and every person who voted for This Morning. We are so overwhelmed,” Hammond told the audience. “This award means so much. We've been humbled the last two years, we haven't won this award. We don't take it lightly that we won this award, we're so grateful.” Deeley said the presenting team felt “lucky” to make the show and described the production as being “like having a family.”
This Morning was among several daytime programmes nominated for the category, which included James Martin’s Saturday Morning, Loose Women and Scam Interceptors. The show’s win follows The Chase taking the Daytime Award in 2024 and The Repair Shop in 2023.
The victory comes as the This Morning team have navigated changes off screen. Deeley, 48, attended the awards with a diamond ring visible on her left hand, weeks after she and comedian and broadcaster Patrick Kielty, 54, announced they had separated. In a joint statement issued in July, the couple said: “We have taken the decision to end our marriage and are now separated. There is no other party involved. We will continue to be united as loving parents to our children and would therefore kindly ask for our family privacy to be respected. There will be no further comment.”
Reports around the time of the announcement said Deeley had been photographed wearing her wedding ring at times and at other moments with the ring moved to her right hand. Kielty was later pictured in the vicinity of the former couple’s home and subsequently resumed his BBC Radio 5 Live duties, quipping about his return on air.
This Morning’s recognition at the National Television Awards underscores the programme’s continued popularity with daytime viewers and follows a year in which established and new series across genres were celebrated at the ceremony. Winners across other categories included the drama Adolescence, the entertainment show Michael McIntyre’s Big Show and the talent series Strictly Come Dancing.
Producers and on‑air talent for long-running daytime programmes often credit viewer voting for awards success, and Thursday’s ceremony provided a high-profile platform for that audience support. The This Morning team said they were grateful for the backing the show received and pledged to continue producing daytime programming that appeals to its broad audience.
