Netflix’s romantic comedy The Wrong Paris, which began streaming Sept. 12, 2025, was filmed primarily in British Columbia rather than in Paris, Texas.
The film, directed by Janeen Damian from a screenplay by Nicole Henrich, stars Miranda Cosgrove as Dawn, a young woman who dreams of attending art school in Paris. In the story Dawn takes a chance on a reality dating show called The Honey Pot that promises contestants a free flight to “Paris” and a generous appearance fee. The program, however, is revealed to be filmed in Paris, Texas; the movie’s production, by contrast, staged those locations in and around Vancouver and Agassiz, British Columbia.
Principal photography took place in September and October 2024, with much of the work carried out on location in Vancouver. Scenes intended to represent the Texas town were shot in Agassiz, a community east of Vancouver, where local reporting said the production used sections of Pioneer Avenue and Park Street. The Canadian autumn weather produced more rain than the Texas setting calls for; Cosgrove told Decider that the cast experienced both sunny and very rainy days while filming.
Cosgrove described one particularly wet shoot in which she and co-star Madison Pettis filmed a mud-wrestling scene. "It was crazy because I had a really bad cold when we filmed it, and it just happened to rain really hard that day. But you can’t even tell it’s raining in the movie," she said. She added that the experience brought the actresses closer: "There’s not anything quite like wrestling with someone in mud in the rain. I’ve never done anything like that before. I feel like we’ll always be friends because of it."
The Wrong Paris casts Pierson Fodé as Trey McAllen, the season’s romantic lead on the fictional Honey Pot. The film includes several ranch-set sequences; Cosgrove said she enjoyed working at those locations and appreciated the change of pace from her Los Angeles background, noting she could "see myself living on a ranch some day because of it."
Production’s use of Vancouver and nearby towns follows a common practice in film and television of substituting Canadian locations for U.S. settings. The finished film presents a sun-soaked, Texan reality show setting on screen while the shoots were executed in a wetter, cooler climate.
The Wrong Paris adds to Cosgrove’s post-television-film work following her rise to prominence on the Nickelodeon series iCarly. The Netflix release has brought attention to both the film’s premise — a mistaken-identity, fish-out-of-water rom-com — and the practical choices made during production to stage Texas in British Columbia.
Credits for the film list Janeen Damian as director and Nicole Henrich as screenwriter. The production’s on-location shoots in Vancouver and Agassiz were carried out in the autumn of 2024, and the film debuted on the streaming service in September 2025.
