FX’s murder mystery satire, "The Shards," is set to air its season finale tonight, September 2, on FX and Hulu. The series, an adaptation of Bret Easton Ellis’ bestselling novel of the same name, follows a heightened version of the author's teen years in 1981 Los Angeles.
The show, which premiered on August 5, depicts a group of high school friends entangled in the investigation of a serial killer known as the Trawler. The narrative centers on a teenage Bret, played by Igby Rigney, who becomes convinced that a new classmate, Robert Mallory, portrayed by Homer Gere, is the murderer. The series explores themes of perception, identity, and the reliability of memory as characters grapple with a series of abductions and killings.
"The Shards" features a cast including Kaia Gerber as Susan Reynolds, Hayes Warner as Debbie Schaffer, Graham Campbell as Thom Wright, Wes Bentley as Terry Schaffer, Evan Rachel Wood as Liz Schaffer, Jordan Roth as Steven Reinhardt, Owen Painter as Matt Kellner, Daniel Dale as Ryan Vaughn, and Ivy Wolk as Really Rhonda.
