Clea Shearer, co‑founder of the organizing brand The Home Edit, told Page Six she carves out time to read every day and shared six books that helped ignite and sustain her appetite for suspense fiction.

Shearer, whose new memoir "Cancer is Complicated: And Other Unexpected Lessons I’ve Learned" is due Tuesday, said reading is a daily priority — whether on a summer porch or by a winter fire — and that it has always made her happiest. The recommendations appeared in Page Six’s Page‑Turners feature, which highlights what celebrities are currently reading.

Shearer credited Gillian Flynn’s "Gone Girl" with jump‑starting her love of thrillers, saying she "couldn’t put it down" and was "completely enthralled" by its twists. She called Liv Constantine’s "The Last Mrs. Parrish" "truly fantastic from beginning to end," noting she was surprised by the plot.

B.A. Paris’s "Behind Closed Doors" made Shearer feel breathless, she said, keeping her "on the edge of my seat" throughout. Freida McFadden’s "The Housemaid" earned a rare "10/10" from Shearer and led to an ongoing interest in McFadden’s work: after reading it she said she became "addicted" and now devours every new release.

Shearer also described branching out from thrillers to read Sarah J. Maas’s "Throne of Glass" series, calling it "incredible" and noting she was not typically drawn to fantasy‑adjacent books. "I was hooked on every word, every character, every plot line," she said. Rounding out the list was Agatha Christie’s classic "And Then There Were None," which Shearer described as an essential whodunnit set on a private island.

The selections reflect a mix of contemporary psychological thrillers, a modern suspense novelist whose work has become a personal favorite, a classic mystery and a surprise detour into fantasy. The choices also map to Shearer’s public persona as someone who values order and calm in her professional life while seeking high‑adrenaline reading to unwind.

Shearer’s new book, which chronicles her personal experience with cancer and the unexpected lessons that followed, arrives amid continued interest in her work outside of organizing, where she and partner Joanna Teplin have built a brand encompassing books, television and products. In offering her reading list, Shearer said she hopes to pass along books that kept her up at night and provided the kind of engrossing escape she prioritizes daily.

The recommendations were first published by Page Six.
