The possibility of a second season for Peacock's "The Five Star Weekend" remains open, with showrunner Bekah Brunstetter expressing a desire for the series to continue. "It’s up to Peacock and it’s up to seeing how much people, when it drops on Thursday, seeing how much people love it," Brunstetter told Decider. "But definitely, the way we set it up is it could go on and on."
The series, which premiered on Peacock on July 9 with all eight episodes, is based on Elin Hilderbrand's novel of the same name. It follows Hollis (Jennifer Garner) as she navigates the loss of her husband by reuniting friends from different stages of her life for a girls' weekend in Nantucket. The ensemble cast includes Chloë Sevigny, Regina Hall, Ashley Williams, and Anna Quilliams. However, each character, including Hollis, arrives with their own personal challenges.
Sevigny, who plays Tatum, suggested that unresolved plotlines could serve as a foundation for future episodes. "I think a lot of people would like to see these women again," Sevigny stated. "I think [with] Tatum, yes, having to struggle with that news, and who knows which direction that could go? But I also feel like Tatum will probably get the travel bug… I think she has a desire to get off the island and explore the world and meet new people."
In the show's eighth episode, Tatum receives concerning medical news when her doctor reports, "The lump was benign, but they found some suspicious cells forming behind it." Brunstetter indicated that this development, alongside other character arcs, could pave the way for more stories.
While Hilderbrand's novel is a standalone story, Brunstetter emphasized that the show's narrative structure was intentionally designed for longevity. "I mean, these women could have a girls trip every summer until they’re 90. And they should," she remarked.
Peacock has not yet officially confirmed a second season. The streaming service offers subscription plans starting at $10.99 per month for a premium ad-supported tier, with an ad-free option available for $16.99 per month. Annual plans offer a discount compared to monthly subscriptions.
