The fifth and final season of the FX series 'The Bear' honored the late actor Rob Reiner, who passed away in December 2025. Reiner, who portrayed culinary consultant Albert Schnur, was unable to physically appear in the season's eight episodes as production began in early 2026. However, the show found ways to integrate his character and pay tribute to the actor, director, producer, and filmmaker.

Albert Schnur was introduced in Season 4 as a consultant who helped Ebra develop a plan for the restaurant's expansion through replication, or a mini-franchise model. He proposed that 'The Bear' could become "bigger than Arby’s!" if the team maintained quality control and a family feel. Albert was slated to play a significant role in Season 5, with plans for him to act as a "consigliere" as the business expanded.

In Season 5, Albert's presence is felt primarily through phone calls with Ebra. In one conversation, Ebra relays Albert's advice on how to approach Carmy about the expansion. "Repeat after me. Make it easy for him to say yes. Don’t use too many words. Have no fear. Don’t be scared by his blue eyes. Stop repeating. Stop repeating. Oh, yes. Sorry. Yes, of course. Wish me luck,” Ebra says, quoting Albert.

Albert is also referenced by "The Computer" (played by Brian Koppelman) as discussions about franchising move forward with Uncle Jimmy (Oliver Platt). In the season finale, as Ebra and colleagues scout potential franchise locations, Ebra takes another call from Albert. Reporting that a location looks "perfect," Ebra asks if there is anything else he can do. Though the request is not heard, Ebra's reply, "As you wish," directly echoes a famous line from Reiner's 1987 film 'The Princess Bride,' serving as a poignant acknowledgment of the actor.

'The Bear' was among Reiner's final projects. He was praised for his seamless integration into the character of Albert, bringing charm, energy, and a comforting personality that made viewers and Ebra trust him immediately. His support and investment in Ebra's skills were noted as a significant contribution to the season's narrative.

In an interview with USA Today, Jeremy Allen White, who plays Carmy, described Reiner as "incredibly generous [and] incredibly kind," adding that he was "so game and curious, committed. Really happy to be there." White contrasted Reiner with instances where meeting admired figures can be disappointing, stating, "And that’s just the opposite case with Rob. He delivered."

Ebon Moss-Bachrach, who plays Richie, and who was Reiner's main scene partner, told The Standard that their time together was "a lot of fun" and that they had "great chemistry immediately." Moss-Bachrach reflected on being Reiner's last scene partner, calling the experience "really, really great moments with someone that you grew up watching in front of the camera, then behind the camera." He added, "It’s emotional when I think about it, because we go back in Season 5, and he’s not there and we fully expected him to be there, [it] changed a bit the trajectory of the story."

Reiner's contributions to film and television are remembered through his creative work and the people he influenced. The tribute in 'The Bear' season 5 continues to honor his legacy.
