Greg James, host of BBC Radio 1's Breakfast Show, admitted he was convinced his invitation to Taylor Swift and Travis Kelce's wedding was an "elaborate trick" and feared he had traveled from England to New York City "for nothing."
James recounted receiving the invitation as a link "in the middle of the night" on March 12. He told listeners that he initially turned off his phone, not wanting to deal with the surreal nature of the message. The lack of a physical invitation led him to suspect it might be a prank or a "fake."
"Until [my wife, Bella Mackie, and I] were in, we thought we may have made a big trip here for nothing," James said. "I wasn’t sure until we got there. … There was a huge part us that was … like, ‘This could not be real. This could be a scam.'"
Swift had verbally invited James to her wedding during an October 2025 interview. When James joked about Kelce performing a wrestling move on him, Swift responded, "He’s going to do that as soon as he sees you at our wedding. That’s gonna happen." Upon James's inquiry about whether he was invited, Swift confirmed, "Obviously."
More than 1,000 guests attended the wedding, which took place at Madison Square Garden. The digital invitations featured a forest theme, a custom double "T" monogram, and a watermark with the guest's name, reading: "You’re invited. July 3rd, 2026 Manhattan. Love, Taylor & Travis. One night only. Early evening. Black tie."
James described the reception as having "unbelievable fun," noting that the food was "plentiful" and "amazing," though it was not a sit-down dinner. He mentioned multiple cakes were available.
He also confirmed speaking with Swift and Kelce at the event, observing that they "both looked amazing" and were enjoying themselves on the dance floor. While James shared some details on Instagram, he was careful not to reveal too much about the private family aspects of the wedding to avoid upsetting the bride.
