Taylor Swift has initiated her campaign for an Emmy award for her "Taylor Swift: The Eras Tour: The Final Show" documentary, which has received five nominations including Best Variety Special (Prerecorded).
Swift reportedly made a surprise appearance at an intimate event at the Ross House in Los Angeles on Wednesday, joining director Glenn Weiss. Attendees, limited to around 50 guests, were prohibited from using phones, cameras, or press coverage. During the event, Swift emphasized the concert film's role in providing "great escapism" for fans.
"One of the things that I was so impressed by, and the needle Glenn threaded so effortlessly, is that the Eras Tour was such a phenomenon because of so many factors but one that I know that is really important is that it was a source of great escapism for the people who were there," Swift was quoted as saying, according to Deadline. She and Weiss discussed preserving the experience of the concert, aiming to maintain the feeling of relaxation and freedom that made the tour special.
Swift's documentary, released last year, offers a behind-the-scenes look at the final show of her record-breaking 2023 tour. In addition to Best Variety Special (Prerecorded), the film is nominated for Best Directing for a Variety Special, Outstanding Picture Editing For Variety Programming, Outstanding Sound Mixing for a Variety Series or Special, and Outstanding Technical Direction and Camerawork for a special.
This marks Swift's second Emmy nomination. She previously won an Emmy in 2015 for Outstanding Creative Achievement In Interactive Media for "AMEX Unstaged: Taylor Swift Experience."
The Eras Tour, which concluded in December 2024, spanned 149 shows across five continents and became the first tour to gross over $2 billion, making it the highest-grossing tour in history.
Prior to the tour's conclusion, Swift reflected on the demanding schedule, expressing a desire to return to hobbies and activities outside of her music career. She described the period leading up to the final show as intensely focused, with a year and eight months of preparation and constant concern for the safety of the tour and its participants.
The notes also mention Swift's recent wedding to NFL player Travis Kelce on July 3, which reportedly had 1,000 guests and featured performances by Paul McCartney and Stevie Nicks. Celebrities in attendance included Gigi Hadid, Bradley Cooper, Selena Gomez, and Jay-Z and Beyoncé. An insider suggested that Swift may be planning to release her own project documenting the wedding, noting the absence of shared images from the event.
