As Taylor Swift and Travis Kelce prepare for their upcoming wedding, new details have emerged regarding the early stages of their romance, suggesting Kelce was initially hesitant about a serious commitment. According to sources cited by Daily Mail, the NFL star adopted a "no-strings-attached" mentality in the first few months of their courtship.

Kelce first pursued Swift in July 2023 by attending her Eras Tour stop in Kansas City, Missouri, and attempting to give her his phone number on a friendship bracelet. Swift, however, was not speaking before or after her performances to preserve her voice, leading Kelce to initially feel slighted. He later commented on his "New Heights" podcast that Swift "didn’t want to meet."

Despite this initial encounter, the pair were reported to be "quietly hanging out" about two months later. During this period, multiple sources allege that Kelce was dating other people and not actively pursuing a serious relationship with Swift. One insider claimed that Kelce viewed the friendship bracelet gesture as more of a "joke" and did not anticipate it leading to anything substantial.

Further accounts suggest that Kelce was not prompt in responding to Swift's text messages in the early days of their relationship. "He wasn’t avoiding her], but you’re not going to be pressed onto something if you’re not looking for something serious," a source explained. "He just wasn’t pursuing her heavily. He’s a football player!"

Sources indicated that the couple did not become "exclusive" until September 2023. The shift towards a more serious commitment is attributed by one insider to the intense nature of Swift's public life, stating, "once you get into the Taylor world, it’s instantly serious."

Swift and Kelce became engaged in August 2025, two years after they began dating. Their wedding is reportedly scheduled to take place over the July 4th weekend. A rehearsal dinner is planned for July 2 at Madison Square Garden, with approximately 100 close friends and family expected to attend. A larger celebration, hosting between 1,000 and 2,000 guests, is scheduled for July 3 at the same venue.

Celebrity wedding planner Mark Seed has been enlisted to coordinate the event, having worked with the couple for months. Reports initially suggested the wedding would occur on June 13 at the Ocean House in Watch Hill, Rhode Island, where Swift owns an estate. It was later revealed that the venue was changed to accommodate a larger guest list. A-list attendees reportedly invited via phone include Selena Gomez, Ed Sheeran, Zoë Kravitz, Suki Waterhouse, Karlie Kloss, the Haim sisters, and Gigi Hadid, all of whom are said to have signed non-disclosure agreements.

Both Swift and Kelce have been seen with friends in recent weeks as the wedding date approaches. Kelce was photographed entering the Bird Streets Club in Los Angeles on June 17 with his brother Jason Kelce, comedian Druski, and former teammate Ross Travis. Around the same time, a woman resembling Swift was seen on the balcony of her Rhode Island mansion with friends.
