Co-creator Taylor Sheridan is reportedly angered by actor Ed Harris' recent public complaints regarding his role in the "Yellowstone" spinoff series, sources told the Daily Mail.
Despite the friction, Harris, who portrays Everett McKinney, will see his role expanded in the series. "Ed Harris will remain on the show and his role will get even bigger," an insider told the outlet. "He is getting more time even though he pissed Taylor Sheridan off with his comments. But Taylor does what he says he is going to do; a promise is a promise."
The source added that Sheridan intends to increase Harris' screen time as initially planned, stating, "He will give Ed more screen time like he initially said. So, Ed can shut up now."
In a previous interview with Variety, Harris expressed frustration over his character's limited role, stating he felt "misled" after being led to believe he would be one of the four main characters. He recalled asking his team to "get him the f–k out of" the series midway through filming the first season. Harris, who did not name Sheridan directly, felt his concerns were dismissed.
"I felt a little bit misled," Harris told Variety. "Prior to signing on for it, I was talked to quite a bit about what the season was and what my character was going to do — and that I was one of the four main characters. And that wasn’t really the case."
The actor also recounted being "really pissed off" when a scene he had been promised was cut from the final episode, with producers citing it was "too up for the dark ending of that episode." Harris indicated this was sufficient grounds to consider voiding his contract.
Sources described Harris as "prickly" but acknowledged his strong on-screen presence. "He can be prickly. But he’s great on screen, so there’s that," an insider commented.
Despite the reported tensions, Harris is slated to appear in the second season of "Dutton Ranch," with filming scheduled to begin next year. The series also features Cole Hauser, Kelly Reilly, and Annette Bening in prominent roles.
