Taylor Momsen said daily workouts and regular boxing sessions are the secret to the sculpted abs she showed off on the 2025 MTV Video Music Awards red carpet Sunday night.
Arriving in a black bralette and a low-slung leather maxi skirt, the 32-year-old Pretty Reckless frontwoman told Page Six that ‘‘consistency is the secret. I work out a lot. I try to do something every day. It just makes me feel good — mentally and physically, obviously.’’ She credited boxing specifically, calling it ‘‘my new obsession at the moment’’ and joking that she ‘‘secretly want[s] to be ‘Buffy the Vampire Slayer,’ so I’m like, well, I’ll just try to do that in real life.’’
Momsen paired the bralette and leather skirt with platform boots, a studded black belt and layered silver necklaces. The singer said the routine has benefits beyond aesthetics, emphasizing the mental as well as physical payoff of daily exercise.
Her comments came days after Pretty Reckless released a new single, "For I Am Death," accompanied by a dark, horror-inflected video. Momsen told Page Six she was ‘‘incredibly proud of it, incredibly excited that it’s out, and that is just the very beginning of what’s to come,’’ adding that the next 12 months for the band would be ‘‘absolutely insane.’’
Momsen also reflected on musical influences while on the carpet, singling out Black Sabbath and the late Ozzy Osbourne. Osbourne was being honored with a tribute at the ceremony. ‘‘Ozzy is so important to me. Black Sabbath is so important to me and what I do. His music is so ingrained in my psyche and being that I feel like I know him,’’ she said, noting she was looking forward to seeing the family at the event.
The red-carpet appearance combined a fashion moment with promotion for the band: Momsen has balanced fronting Pretty Reckless with maintaining a high-profile public image since the group's rise. The single release and her comments about upcoming activity suggest the band intends to build on recent momentum in the months ahead.
Momsen's remarks at the VMAs red carpet offer a snapshot of how artists often pair promotional moments with personal branding. She emphasized routine and a specific training focus rather than dramatic diets or miracle fitness fixes, and framed the regimen as part of both her wellbeing and readiness for physically demanding performances.
The Pretty Reckless single release came the Friday before the VMAs, and the band has not yet released full details of upcoming tours or album plans. Momsen's public references to a busy year ahead suggest additional releases or performances may be imminent, but she provided no concrete schedule at the red carpet.
