Sydney Sweeney is set to star in a contemporary reimagining of "The Legend of Sleepy Hollow," a project described as an "erotic thriller."
The film, titled "Hollow," will be a feminist retelling of Washington Irving's 1820 short story and is based on Lindsey Anderson Beer's debut novel of the same name. Beer is slated to direct, produce, and adapt the project.
According to Deadline, the "Hollow" story "blends gothic atmosphere, psychological intrigue and erotic thriller elements into a contemporary, high-concept reinvention." Sweeney, 28, is expected to play the lead role of Van Tassel, who becomes entangled in a "seductive supernatural love triangle."
This marks another venture into the erotic thriller genre for Sweeney, who previously starred in Amazon Prime Video's "The Voyeurs" and the film "The Housemaid."
Tim Burton's 1999 film "Sleepy Hollow," starring Johnny Depp and Christina Ricci, remains a well-known cinematic adaptation of the classic tale. A television series based on the story also aired for four seasons between 2013 and 2017.
In addition to "Hollow," Sweeney has several other projects in development, including a sequel to "The Housemaid" and the lead role in the sci-fi action film "Gundam."
Sweeney has also recently launched her own lingerie line, Syrn. The actress has been active in promoting the brand, sharing images of herself modeling its collections on social media.
