Steve Way’s character, Alden, has become a source of much-needed levity in Hulu’s new serial killer drama, ‘Furious,’ according to star Lola Petticrew. Way, a comedian and actor, plays Alden, a wheelchair-bound home-health client who is also dating Catherine, played by Petticrew.
While the series delves into dark and violent subject matter, Way’s character offers moments of relief and humor. Petticrew described Way as a "phenomenal actor" and an "awesome human being" who kept her laughing daily. She noted his versatility, stating, "He’s a comedian. Steve wears many hats: he’s a writer, he’s a comedian, he is an actor, he is anything that he wants to be."
In a recent episode, Alden is questioned in connection with a murder committed by Catherine. During the interrogation, Alden trolls detectives Danny and Agent Choi, even going so far as to claim Catherine’s tampons were his deceased mother’s and repeatedly stating that "all cops are bastards." This defiance, while frustrating for the arresting officers, provided a comedic respite for the audience before Alden is released.
The dynamic between Alden and Catherine is central to the plot, with Alden demonstrating a willingness to do anything for Catherine, who is one of the few people he still cares about. Petticrew found comfort in exploring the intricacies of this push-and-pull relationship and the potential for Alden to cover up Catherine's transgressions.
"For me, the relationship between Alden and Catherine is so special and definitely where I got to find like a lot of comfort," Petticrew said. "Building that with Steve was an incredible honor. The ideas that he came in with every day and like the way that he is able to sort of like take something that you’re pretty sure it can only be done one way... and then the total surprise. When he just does something totally different."
Despite the season's brutal murders, confrontations, and emotionally charged monologues, Petticrew cited her special bond with Way and their work together as a highlight of her experience on ‘Furious.’
The first six episodes of ‘Furious’ Season 1 are currently streaming on Hulu, with new episodes released on Mondays.
