As Prime Video prepares to release the new young adult drama "Sterling Point," the actors portraying the central male love interests are anticipating the fan fervor that often accompanies such series. Daniel Quinn-Toye, who plays Rory, and Jacob Whiteduck-Lavoie, who plays Ellis, are aware of the "ship wars" that may emerge as viewers choose sides in the romantic entanglement with Ella Rubin's character, Annie Jacobson.
"Sterling Point" centers on Annie, a 17-year-old who inherits a Canadian island from her estranged grandfather. While exploring her newfound family connections on the island, she finds herself drawn to two young men: Ellis, a local who works at the marina and is weary of wealthy summer tourists, and Rory, a former childhood friend from a real estate family who has returned to the island for the summer. The series, created by Megan Park, also features Keen Ruffalo as Annie's twin brother Connor and Jay Duplass as her adoptive father, Steven.
Whiteduck-Lavoie admitted to not being fully prepared for the potential fan backlash or intense engagement. "I don’t know what to expect," he told DECIDER. "I hope it won’t be, you know, too crazy, but I don’t know. I really don’t know what to expect."
Quinn-Toye, however, expressed confidence in his co-star's character, going so far as to declare himself an "Ellis fan." He described Whiteduck-Lavoie as "the most handsome guy I’ve ever seen in my life" and suggested that a direct competition between their characters might be unlikely. "It’s so funny to me to the idea that there would be two different factions off of it. It’s just, come on. Even I’m an Ellis fan. How can you not be?"
Despite their playful predictions, the actors hinted that they might "start some internet beef" for amusement. Whiteduck-Lavoie, 33, previously starred in the Canadian hockey series "First Line." Quinn-Toye, 23, is a Scottish actor who appeared in the film "Pressure" and is set to attend Columbia University in the fall.
"Sterling Point" features eight episodes and begins streaming on Prime Video on Wednesday, August 5.
