Stephanie Davis has said she cried every night for seven weeks after splitting from her partner shortly after the birth of their son, describing the end of the relationship as "pretty traumatic." The former Hollyoaks actor, 31, told followers in an Instagram clip that the breakup came about four months after the couple welcomed their baby boy Samuel in January.
In the post Davis said her personal life had been "more dramatic than any of her storylines," and that she had experienced "me problems" and multiple heartbreaks. "I became a single mum at four months post partum. Which, as you can imagine, was pretty traumatic," she said, adding: "I cried in bed next to me mum every night for about seven weeks and then I got myself together and I'm now on this healing journey to finding and loving me."
Davis and Joseph McKalroy, who had been in a relationship since 2022, confirmed Samuel's arrival in January. At the time McKalroy posted an emotional message calling the newborn "my beautiful baby boy Samuel McKalroy" and expressing how much the child would have meant to a deceased uncle. The couple's split was not formally announced; fans noticed Davis omitted McKalroy from a Father's Day post and some commentators asked about his whereabouts on her social channels.
Davis, who also has a seven-year-old son, Caben, with ex-boyfriend Jeremy McConnell, said she had hoped to create a stable family unit but that plans did not work out. She and McKalroy had previously suffered a miscarriage in 2022 at about three months, an experience she described as "horrendous" and one that had already shaped the couple's hopes for their family.
The actor's account referenced earlier trauma in her life and relationships. McConnell was convicted of assaulting Davis in 2017; she has publicly discussed the impact of that conviction and subsequent events on her parenting and mental health. In the Instagram clip Davis praised her father for supporting her and their two sons during recent months, writing in a social post that "there aren't many men like you."
Davis rose to prominence on the Channel 4 soap Hollyoaks and has since appeared on other British television programmes, maintaining a high-profile presence on social media where she has shared candid reflections on her personal life. Her disclosure follows a trend among public figures of discussing postpartum mental health and relationship breakdowns publicly, a conversation that clinicians and advocates say can reduce stigma and encourage others to seek support.
Davis did not provide further details about the timing of the split or her current relationship with McKalroy in the clip. Representatives for Davis and McKalroy did not immediately respond to requests for comment.
Her account adds to a public timeline of events that includes Samuel's January birth, the couple's miscarriage in 2022, and the earlier legal history involving McConnell. Davis said she has since begun a process of healing and self-discovery, telling followers she is "on this healing journey to finding and loving me."
