A screening of "Spider-Man: Brand New Day" in Cartagena, Colombia, was disrupted and subsequently evacuated on August 2 after an audience member's prolonged flatulence filled the theater with a strong odor. The incident occurred at the Cine Colombia multiplex in the Plaza Bocagrande shopping center.
Approximately halfway through the film, the offensive odor led to widespread discomfort among the audience. Numerous moviegoers abandoned their seats and exited the auditorium, gathering in the lobby. Footage from the scene showed distressed patrons, including someone dressed as Spider-Man, milling about in the hallway.
While the screening was not officially canceled, a significant number of attendees chose to leave before the film concluded due to the pervasive stench. Reports suggest the individual responsible either deployed a stink bomb as a prank or was unable to reach a restroom in time.
The incident sparked online commentary, with some viewers criticizing the unidentified person for their lack of consideration. "There’s no respect anymore," one person was quoted as saying, "but I don’t think anyone is so rotten as to evacuate an entire auditorium."
Others humorously labeled the anonymous individual the film's true "villain." "To ruin a whole cinema like that, only God knows what that person ate," another comment read.
Despite the disruptive event, "Spider-Man: Brand New Day" itself received positive critical and audience reception. The film garnered a "certified fresh" rating from 90% of critics and 98% of audience members on Rotten Tomatoes. It also achieved considerable box office success, grossing $927 million worldwide, marking one of the most successful opening weekends for a film domestically and globally.
