Spider-Man producer Amy Pascal has revealed that she advised stars Tom Holland and Zendaya against dating while they were filming "Spider-Man: Homecoming" in 2016.
Pascal, who has produced all three recent "Spider-Man" films, told Variety that she warned the actors against an off-screen romance, but her advice was not heeded. "I say this to all of them, and no one ever listens to me!" Pascal joked, adding that Holland and Zendaya "are pretty happy together."
The couple, who met on the set of the 2016 film "Spider-Man: Homecoming," confirmed their marriage in March. Pascal has previously commented on the recurring on-screen romance between the actors playing Peter Parker and MJ, noting that "Tobey and Kirsten dated, and Andrew and Emma - and MJ and Peter just always fall in love. There's nothing you can do about it."
Holland and Zendaya have spoken publicly about their relationship. In a recent appearance on "Late Night with Seth Meyers," Holland referred to Zendaya as his "wife." Zendaya, in an interview with MTV, called Holland her "best friend" and expressed her appreciation for growing together and watching him work.
Holland has also shared that Zendaya helps him manage the pressures of fame. He told Entertainment Tonight that she brings a sense of "calm" to his life, even amidst the chaos of global travel and movie production. "No one calms me down better than she does," he said.
Holland reprises his role as Peter Parker in the latest "Spider-Man" installment, "Spider-Man: Brand New Day," which was released last week and achieved a record-breaking $355 million in its opening weekend in the U.S.
