Director Destin Daniel Cretton brought his mother, Janice, as his guest of honor to the Hollywood premiere of "Spider-Man: Brand New Day" on Monday night. The pair walked the blue carpet together before entering the Dolby Theater, where Cretton acknowledged his mother's presence during his introductory remarks.
"My mom is here. It’s her first time at a big Hollywood movie premiere. She made me this lei," Cretton said, referring to the lei he wore, and thanked her for traveling from Hawaii for the event. He also recognized his wife and children for their support throughout the filmmaking process.
The premiere was attended by the film's stars, including Tom Holland, Zendaya, Jon Bernthal, Sadie Sink, and Jacob Batalon. The event featured themed photo opportunities and drew a crowd of celebrities, such as Michael B. Jordan, directing duo Phil Lord and Chris Miller, Jaden Smith, Keith David, Steve Lacy, and the Japanese rock band Mrs. Green Apple.
"Spider-Man: Brand New Day" follows Peter Parker after he erased himself from the memories of those close to him. Early reviews for the superhero film have been largely positive, with projections indicating a domestic opening weekend exceeding $250 million.
