Fans of the Spice Girls have voiced their strong disappointment on social media after the pop group teased a significant announcement that ultimately turned out to be the release of a new compilation box set. The group had initially hinted at upcoming news with an Instagram post stating something was coming on "10.09.2026 | 2pm BST."
Following the anticipation, the Spice Girls revealed on Thursday the release of "The Singles Collection," a 14-disc vinyl and CD box set featuring original artwork and B-sides, along with previously unreleased demos. This announcement, however, did not align with fan hopes for a reunion tour or new music from the five members: Victoria Beckham, Geri Halliwell, Melanie "Mel B" Brown, Emma Bunton, and Melanie "Mel C" Chisholm.
Many fans expressed their frustration online, with comments such as, "At this point, the teasing feels abusive. ARE YOU KIDDING ME!!!?? Bringing this up in therapy." Another fan wrote, "this announcement went viral – this cannot just be for a CD box set & unreleased music?! 😅," while others quipped, "This meeting could have been an email."
Disappointment was particularly evident regarding the lack of a reunion tour, especially as this year marks the 30th anniversary of the group's debut single, "Wannabe." Fans had been anticipating a tour or even a Las Vegas residency, with some expressing that they had already made financial preparations, such as "negotiating with my husband on my price cap for Spice Girls tickets" or "looking up part time jobs to buy tickets for tour."
One fan directly referenced the lyrics of "Wannabe," commenting, "I’ll tell you what I want! What I really really want…..A TOUR WITH ALL 5!!!" Another added, "What I really really want is a world tour zigazigah."
Reports from March indicated that the Spice Girls had canceled planned performances for the "Wannabe" anniversary after failing to reach an agreement. Despite this, Mel C. confirmed in March that while there was no reunion at that moment, she remained optimistic about future collaborations. "We are communicating all the time, we want to do something," she stated. "Who knows when? But I still feel very optimistic, and I keep my fingers crossed that you will see the Spice Girls together at some point in the future."
Mel B. also expressed her openness to touring, telling Page Six in March, "I’m always the one going, ‘Yes, we’re going on tour.’ I would love to go on tour. I would love to do music, but it isn’t happening."
"The Singles Collection" is set to be released on November 6.
