Katy Perry and former Canadian prime minister Justin Trudeau remain in contact and are pursuing the beginnings of a private relationship, according to people familiar with the situation.
A source told Us Weekly on Monday that the 40-year-old pop star and the 53-year-old former premier "have decided to be much more private about it. They are still speaking and are very interested in each other." Another source cautioned the pair’s relationship "isn't serious" at present, saying Perry is "extremely busy right now" with her Lifetimes Tour.
The insider told Us Weekly that Trudeau has made plans to see Perry when she has downtime after a run of dates in Brazil, and that Perry is "taking it day by day but is very open to dating." A separate account to People earlier this year described an attraction between the two and said they "have a lot in common." The pair were spotted together in Montreal earlier in 2025.
Perry confirmed the end of her engagement to actor Orlando Bloom in July. Trudeau separated from his wife Sophie Grégoire Trudeau in 2023. Both have parenting responsibilities that, according to an insider, could slow any development of a relationship but would not preclude meetings. "Their own personal responsibilities could make this relationship move slower than it would, but there are ways to see the other and still fulfil their parenting responsibilities," the source said.
Perry’s Lifetimes Tour began April 23, 2025, and is scheduled to conclude Dec. 7, 2025, comprising 91 shows across Asia, Australia, Europe, North America and South America. The tour’s schedule and long stretches on the road were cited by sources as a factor in the couple’s decision to keep contact discreet while exploring whether the relationship can progress.
Representatives for Perry and Trudeau did not immediately respond to requests for comment. Media outlets have previously published photos and reports of the two together; their public appearances and the accounts from people close to the pair have prompted reports about an emerging connection but stop short of describing a formal relationship.
Sources who spoke to media described shared interests, including a love of music and a mutual affinity for idealistic causes, which they said helped explain an initial attraction. Observers have noted the logistical complications of travel, parenting and ongoing professional commitments for both parties as factors likely to shape any future meetings.
At present, coverage rests on accounts from unnamed insiders and previously published reports. The parties involved have kept details thin, and sources say they are intentionally limiting public visibility as they decide how — and whether — to proceed while Perry completes the remainder of her tour.
