Sonja Morgan says the original cast of The Real Housewives of New York City remains tightly knit, keeping in touch through a group text they call "OG Beauties" while exploring opportunities to reunite on screen.

"We're on a text chain OG Beauties," Morgan, 61, told the Daily Mail in an interview. She credited former castmate Kelly Bensimon with naming the chat and said the members check on one another across distances and busy schedules.

Morgan described recent reunions and small moments that underline the group's closeness, saying she bumped into Bethenny Frankel at a Ryan Murphy premiere and met Dorinda Medley backstage at a women's empowerment event, where the two were moved to tears. She also recounted a moment of group concern over Ramona Singer, who went unresponsive for several hours while out playing golf.

"We were all worried recently about Ramona because we didn't hear from her for like three hours. And then I said, 'Here she is, girls... She's playing golf. She's fine,'" Morgan said. "You know, when you play golf, you're gone for five hours. You're not answering. So we are keeping track of each other."

Morgan said the friendships predate the show; she was already close with Luann de Lesseps, Singer and Jill Zarin when she joined the cast. She argued that the depth of those preexisting relationships contributed to the show's early success and suggested attempts to add new cast members who lacked similar bonds weakened the series.

The former Housewives remain active in entertainment and are pursuing further projects together. Morgan said the group has "tentacles out there with different producers" and that there is interest in developing a new program. Funding and timing, she said, remain hurdles after production slowdowns tied to the writers' strike.

"We're all trying to get something together with each other, and there's definitely interest. It's about who can get the money the fastest together for a pilot," Morgan said. She envisioned a series focused on their lives in Florida rather than another New York-centered installment, likening the idea to a contemporary, not-quite-Golden Girls portrayal of longtime friends.

Several RHONY alums have remained in the public eye since leaving the franchise. Morgan and de Lesseps appeared together in the 2023 mini series Welcome to Crappie Lake, and Morgan is currently touring with her stand-up show Sonja In Your City. Her next scheduled performance is Sept. 24 in Tampa, Florida.

Morgan framed the group's dynamic as familial and resilient, saying that despite any past on-screen drama the women prioritize their longstanding bonds. She said that while the desire to return to screens is mutual, practical considerations about funding and production timelines will determine whether the OG Beauties' next chapter becomes a television reality.
