Sonja Morgan said her nearly year-and-a-half relationship with a man she dubs "The Viking" has ended after he withdrew from the partnership while dealing with a family crisis.

The 61-year-old former Real Housewives of New York City cast member disclosed the split in an interview with the Daily Mail while promoting her improv comedy tour, Sonja In Your City. Morgan said the man, whom she gave the nickname "The Viking" to conceal his identity, "went through a family situation" and ultimately could not "handle a relationship anymore." She added, "I sucked it up, moved on and I've been dating here and there."

Morgan said the end of the relationship has sharpened her priorities. "But I'm not investing my time in anyone unless I see that they really want a future together to grow old together because that's what I'm looking for now," she told the Daily Mail. Onstage and in interviews, she has framed her touring comedy as a new chapter: more freedom to be candid in performance and to pursue relationships on her own terms.

Morgan discussed the aftermath of her earlier marriage to John Adams Morgan, the investment banker and J.P. Morgan heir to whom she was married from 1998 to 2006. The couple had a daughter, Quincy Adams Morgan, now 24. Morgan said her former husband, who died earlier this year at age 94, faced protracted health and estate matters that made his death "very unsettling." She said fans who attend her shows understand she "really loved him" despite what was portrayed on television.

The reality star remains connected to many of her former castmates through an informal text group called "OG Beauties," a name she said came from Kelly Bensimon. Morgan said the women, several of whom live in Florida and New York, still see one another and have discussed potential television projects. "We're all working on getting a show," she said, noting that conversations with producers and fund-raising remain underway. She added that the labor disruptions in the entertainment industry slowed developments: "After the writers' strike, all funds were on hold."

Morgan said any future series would likely reflect their current lives rather than return to the Real Housewives of New York City format. She floated the idea of a Florida-based program focused on women in midlife, saying the project would not be RHONY but would feature the group "sort of like... timeless lifestyles of women you grew up with."

Asked about criticism that reality television can foster toxic behavior on set, Morgan said the format is designed for entertainment and that tensions can be amplified by travel, jet lag and long days of filming. "It's TV," she said. "You can go on an all girls trip with 10 of your favorite... friends and you can still have blow-ups when there's travel and jet lag." She emphasized that living truthfully and getting good rest are important to wellbeing.

Morgan credited sleep, diet and close relationships for her health and appearance. She said she follows a Mediterranean-style diet and referenced the MIND diet, and said the latest research supports eating red meat about once a week. "The latest science shows that people that live the longest have good relationships," she said.

Offscreen incidents over the past year have kept Morgan in headlines. She appeared in reports that she was banned from New York City restaurant Tucci following a dispute over a roughly $1,000 bill. Morgan told the Daily Mail she had been invited to a comped meal and had payment issues with her card; she said she ultimately paid and left a tip. Tucci owner Max Tucci told the Daily Mail that there was "no agreement for a complimentary dinner" and accused Morgan of "taking advantage" of the restaurant. Morgan said she has text messages that demonstrate she paid and tipped.

Morgan also addressed the sale of her Upper East Side townhouse, which has since become a sober living residence. She said she had previously been approached to rent the property to a sober living facility but declined because she worried about transient traffic and the effect on neighbors. Release Recovery, the organization now occupying the house, did not immediately respond to Daily Mail requests for comment, the outlet reported.

Morgan, who joined RHONY in 2010 and remained on the show until 2021, has continued to work in television and film since leaving the franchise, appearing in projects such as the spin-off Ultimate Girls Trip and the movie Welcome to Crappie Lake. She is currently touring the country with Sonja In Your City; the Daily Mail reported upcoming stops that include Tampa, Florida, on Sept. 24 and dates in Orange County, California.

Onstage, Morgan said she feels liberated to be more candid about her life. "I've dated royalty. I've dated rock stars. I married into a very discreet, powerful American family that's considered royalty," she told the Daily Mail. "I know I've done that and I don't have to do that anymore. So when I go on tour, if I want to do chair dances and make people laugh and talk about sex, I can do that."
